Can you imagine life without the internet? It's hard to believe that just over a decade ago the internet wasn't part of our daily lives. From entertainment, to keeping in touch, to planning trips we turn to our browsers multiple times a day to find and share information. Here are some great online resources for brides-to-be, including a few ideas that you might not have thought of.
Trip Advisor
One of the largest hotel and location review sites, there are millions of honest reviews from genuine travellers packed into this easy to navigate site. Want to find out what the food at your reception venue is really like? What is the weather normally like in Paris at the time of year that you are planning your honeymoon? You will find plenty of answers, or at least opinions, here.
One Stop Wedding Planner
Not the most flash site, perhaps, but definitely one of the most comprehensive resources to find tools that will help you record and plan aspects of your wedding such as the budget and seating plan. You can also store details such as contacts and lists of possible venues, all easily referenced and with your own personal notes.
Yahoo Answers
Although every wedding is different, there are enough similarities that you can get valuable advice from brides who have been there, done that. Ask for people's suggestions for wedding favors, their opinion on your top first dance song picks or their experience buying from a particular website. Remember that answers aren't monitored or edited, so take them with a pinch of salt, and don't be offended if someone offers an answer that seems rude or nasty.
Dessy Pantone Color Tool
This fantastic tool launched last year, and has quickly become one of my favorite wedding links. Mix and match color swatches to see which shades compliment each other. Once you have found your ideal color pallette you can order swatches to help you match accessories and decorations, or buy bridesmaids dresses in the exact shades of your choice. A great site for inspiration, especially in the early planning stages.
Flickr
Not just a great way to share your wedding images, Flickr can be an interesting way to see how other people have celebrated their big day. If you are thinking about having a specific theme, search for photos from other similar weddings to get some inspiration, as well as caution on how NOT to do it! Try typing a color followed by "wedding" and see a huge variety of images from real life weddings as well as vendors, locations and photographers around the world.
Wedding Mapper
Not just for maps, WeddingMapper.com offers a range of resources for brides, from directions between your church and reception venue, to reviews of locations. Fun and informative, you can see photos of weddings from your area, manage your guests and vendors, and plan every detail of your wedding. If you only use one wedding website to plan your wedding, this would be my recommendation.
