As if a destination wedding in Ireland at a traditionally beautiful stately castle wasn't intoxicating enough, this wedding location has a romantic history which makes it even more amazing.Standing majestically on the banks of the River Shannon in Glin, County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, is the regal, historic home of the 29th Knight of Glin and his wife Madam FitzGerald; the Glin Castle. Architecture and art co-mingle in this stately home where guests are welcome between March and November, and at other times through special arrangements. During 2009,Glin Castle is open for exclusive rental only to groups requiring at least six rooms.
With complete access to the entire estate and full attention of the staff, Glin Castle would be a marvelous place to have an intimate wedding. The castle can only accommodate 30 overnight visitors and weddings can be catered for a total of 50 guests. Unfortunately, if you are planning a large wedding, this is not the place for you.
Couples will enjoy fine Irish country dining in an elegant setting. Dishes include fresh fish and locally grown poultry, lamb and beef. The castle has an organic garden to provide fresh fruits and vegetables. There is even an apiary for fresh honey.
The rich art and architecture, as well as the sprawling grounds, colorful gardens and well manicured lawns will be beautiful scenery for your wedding pictures. Surely this will add to the wonderful memories of your special day. I think a vintage wedding would be an excellent idea for this dramatically decorated and historically rich setting. Imagine vintage couture, accessories, decor, favors and a statuesque piece of architecture whose entire aura says vintage as well. It almost sounds like a fairytale, does it not? Source local suppliers who can help to recreate theoppulence and romance that might have infused the wedding of Knight Glin to his Lady.
On-site activities are from another age too, with croquet, tennis, skeet shooting and archery. Of course, you may simply choose to spend time as the LadyGlin might have: strolling through the gardens and lounging in the drawing room with your choice of beverage. The intimate setting makes it possible to spend quality time with those who are closest to you as they join you in your celebration of love.
Not only can you have a picturesque and romantic wedding at Glin Castle while enjoying all of its splendor; you and your guests can expand your horizons by spending a little bit of time touring the area and taking in the sights.
If you or your guests feel adventurous, tourist attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher, The Burren Limestone Landscape, Dingle Peninsula, Adare, Limerick, Clonshire Equestrian Centre, various castles and ruins, whale watching, deep sea fishing and evening cruises on the Shannon Estuary and many golf courses are nearby. You only have to spend a few nights in these sumptuous and old fashion surroundings to begin to feel like you and your new husband are indeed a Knight and his Lady about to embark on your own fairytale.
