Julie King Wedding Photographer
How did you first get into wedding photography?
I started a Youth Training Scheme upon leaving school 1984, unfortunately there wasn’t a job at the end of the course. I applied for an photographers assistant job with a local wedding photographer, not really wanting to photograph weddings as I thought they were too much of a responsibility, but after a year of firsthand experience and encouragement from a true professional, I was thrown in at the deep end and photographed my first wedding, the bride and groom had no idea that it was my first... It was a total success and loved every minute of it and I haven’t looked back.
What would you say makes your photography unique?
I would like to think my photography is unique as I spend time listening to the bride and groom so I know what they really want, besides being a female photographer, I feel it is possible to communicate with the bride on a 'different' level which promotes successful pictures!
What is the one thing you try to capture in your photography?
Emotion - the passion for each other, joy, laughter and not forgetting love!
What is your favourite image to photograph at a wedding?
I like to picture a scene; the happy couple hand in hand with a fabulous backdrop, water always makes it interesting shot.
What piece of equipment could you not do without?
My Lens, it has so much scope, not to mention my cameras of course.
Why do you love photographing weddings?
I love the atmosphere at weddings, everyone is just so happy! I just can’t wait to see the bride’s dress, what flowers she has chosen not forgetting the bridesmaid dresses!!! It makes such a different when you can see how much effort they have put into their wedding day and it’s up to me to capture it all.
What is the biggest challenge in photographing a wedding?
I have had a few challenges in my time but after years of experience, I would say” you need to be prepared and have a few plans in place beforehand”,
What one piece of advice would you offer to couples regarding their wedding photography?
In this day and age we are finding everyone is a so called “photographer” with decent digital camera... what they don’t have is the experience and skills of a professional photographer. My advice is do some homework and you will see you only get what you pay for. Remember this is the happiest day of your lives and the photographs are still around long after all the cake has been eaten ... please get a professional.
