Killer Color Combo: Blue and White
Blue and White Wedding Theme by Martha StewartA wedding industry survey last week revealed that the hottest colour trend for weddings at the moment is blue. More modern, daring brides are opting for bold and vibrant electric blues, while more romantic sorts are choosing pale pastels. Up to 33% of all couples polled claimed to have chosen blue for their wedding, a color that hasn't had a popular run in recent years, with red and purple firmly holding their positions as favorite.
While some couples were using the color strongly in their theme, the majority said that they were pairing the colour with white. Hardly surprising, as I don't imagine many Mrs-to-Be walking down the aisle in a sky blue gown! That said, there have been several beautiful examples of blue-tinged wedding dresses appearing in fashion magazines and catwalks this seasons.
Although not as jaw dropping as the stunning Ming inspired dress by Roberto Cavalli, worn by Victoria Beckham in 2005, with just a hint of Robin's egg blue (reminiscent of Tiffany) these gowns subtly fulfill your "something blue".
Maggie SotteroThis satin gown is by Maggie Sottero is a sumptuous shade of palest teal that would be a great choice for a very pale bride who might find white gowns too harsh for her skin tones. As with all colors, blues come in various hues, from warmer teal to cooler frosty shades, so if you are thinking about wearing this color you should try to find a shade that will complement your natural coloring.
Youlin TsaiNew York bridal designer Youlin Tsai, also has several wedding gowns with hints of blue, although she incorporates the color in design features such as ribbons, sashes and embroidered panels. Although on the pricier side of wedding gowns, her designer creations are sure to make a statement at your wedding, and will make you stand out from the sea of frothing white chiffon of other brides.
Basil SodaFor bridesmaids you can afford to be a little more daring with your color choice. There are some stunning, eye popping blue bridesmaid gowns available at the moment. Lebanese designer Basil Soda has a range of elegant and sophisticated blue gowns from deep, dark navy to bright electric blue. The long, flowing lines and high fashion styles are ideal for an evening wedding.
As for accessories, flowers and decorations, consider incorporating a third, complementary color. Lavender shades go well with pastel blues, while pinks make an unusual but visually interesting contrast. Or you can play it safe with greens - either hot tropical or subtle spring shades. Glenna Tooman, from ForeverWed.com, advises that bright colors will look more effective in the wedding photographs, whilst too many pastel shades can make your images look washed out and pale.
