With the economic climate not looking too rosy at the moment, many couples are cutting back on costs for their wedding. It’s best to be creative so you can cut back costs without cutting back the experience. One way is to do away with the honeymoon and instead go for a shorter "minimoon". These can consist of a weekend, or a few more nights, but are usually less than a week. They are great for couples who have busy work commitments as they give you the time to get away from it all but without having to book vacation time.
Minimoons often take place in your own country. It cuts down on traveling costs to have an American vacation and it is often quicker to travel too. Not only that, but the United States are so varied that you could easily find a destination that is perfect for what you have in mind. Try California for a sunny, surf weekend. Perfect for those sun worshipers who are after a warm vacation lazing around on the beach. Or try Hawaii for the sea and sand with a dash of traditional culture- sipping cocktails under the Hawaiian sun is a gorgeous and refreshing way to spend a few days.
If you’d prefer something with a cooler climate, jet off to Alaska. With breathtaking icy scenery, take a cruise through the glaciers or have a romantic cuddle under the beautiful view of the Aurora Borealis. If you get fed up of sight seeing (unlikely!) then you can try out some more active adventures- kayaking, hiking and river rafting trips are freely available. Alternatively, head to the Big Apple for a chic, city vacation spent shopping, wining and dining.
Minimoons do not have to be restricted to America, however. Try popping across the Atlantic to Europe. Great Britain has many fantastic destinations- whether it’s a cottage in the Welsh countryside, a city trip to London or hiking in the Lake District- there is a perfect vacation for you. With a flight time of 8 hours from New York, it is perfectly feasible to spend a long weekend in the historic United Kingdom. If you’d prefer something a little more exotic, head to the continent. France and Italy are beautiful locations to spend 5 nights or so, and both have wonderful cultures with plenty to see and do. From art galleries to beaches, cathedrals to boutiques, European locations are steeped in history and just a few hours across the Atlantic.
Minimoons are great value- not only are they cheaper because of their shorter length, but you can often find offers and special deals to help your money go that little bit further. What’s more, with less time to squeeze everything in, you can be sure that you will make the most of every minute. There will be no time wasting on a minimoon so you can be sure that you got the absolute best out of your vacation.
Whether it’s sunbathing, shopping or skiing you can be sure to find the trip that is right for you- and think of all the extra spending money you will have!
