Seasonal Weddings : Winter Wedding Ideas

Winter weddings work best with colors that reflect the season- sunflower yellow might look a bit out of place on a snowy January afternoon. Although it’s cold, sometimes snowing and often raining- at least you know what to expect with a winter wedding. This is the perfect time of year for a shining, sparkling fairytale wedding.

To keep warm, shun the traditional satin bridesmaids dresses and clad your wedding party in warm velvet or fine wool. Add pashminas, cashmere cardigans or fur capes for extra defense against the chill, and for delightful textures.

There are two main color choices for Winter weddings- warm red and gold or icy blue and white. Red and gold is reminiscent of Christmas, while cools blues and silver lend themselves to the frosty winter weather.

Instead of a tower of cupcakes in this season, how about individual hot mincemeat pies with a marzipan sprig of holly on top. For favors, give out red and gold Christmas baubles painted with your names and wedding date for a December wedding, or how about miniature snow globes for other winter months?

To keep your guests glowing, instead of Champagne, serve hot spiced wine, and have a coffee bar in addition to your bar.

Your flowers can be deep burgundy or crisp white roses with feathers peeking out from the bouquet, or opt for simple cala lilies tied up with vibrant green ribbons, held in place with a large diamante brooch.

Speaking of diamonds, the winter months are an ideal time to dazzle, using cut glass, diamante decorations and glitter in abundance to reflect the sparkling frost outside.
